INTRO
I come to Slow Food, not as a producer, artisan or any type of food professional, but one who appreciates and enjoys the integral link between food, culture and environment. I am a published journalist and practicing marketer with a passion for supporting Slow Food from a neutral stance as I see protecting this aspect of our lives as essential to our social futures.
MANIFESTO - ‘Good, Clean & Fair’
These words resonate with a bounty of interpretation when in the context of Slow Food.
To me, Slow Food Cornwall gives us the opportunity to add our unique flavour to this international organisation.
Cornwall is a place of contrasts and individuality, entrepreneurs and aspirational souls. It is a wonderful county with a climate, culture and even a geography that sometimes reflects the birthplace of Slow Food. The peninsula of land striking distinctively out into the ocean, Cornwall or Italy!?
My intentions are simple, raise awareness of our movement with all the soul, integrity and pleasure with which it began.
Create stimulating and inspiring events for people of all backgrounds to help educate and propagate respect and consideration for the journey from plough to plate, ocean to kitchen, field to fork! Thus protecting the local communities, industries and ecosystems that are a barrier to globalisation and homogenisation.
Accessibility and inclusion to all is essential, as we will otherwise be preaching to the converted.
Proliferation of the spirit of Slow Food, which safeguards our most basic yet most essential relationship with our world.
This mission is achievable through educational campaigns, partnerships, events and passion. Creating a groundforce of willing and inspired members upon which to build a stronger force within Slow Food UK and the International movement.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
