Slow Food Brunch 30/10/05:
At the first open meeting of Slow Food Cornwall held at Pescadou in Padstow, Convivium leader, Bob Lindo, announced a huge increase in membership, largely due to the Slow Food Brunch event held at Prideaux Place back in October.
The six course Brunch Tasting Menu was designed to highlight what a diverse range of quality food is produced in Cornwall and to raise awareness of provenance – and so providing an introduction to the Slow Food movement and all it stands for.
The menu featured Cornish sparkling wine; muesli with Cornish Yogurt and Cornish Strawberry drizzle, Danish `Cornish’ pastries using local apples; sustainable fish Kedgeree made with smoked Ling, Cornish Salt Pilchards (a Slow Food Presidia product); Cornish cream cheeses, rare breed sausages, cured bacon, field mushrooms, organic squash, and a sorbet made using regional plums (Kea Plum) served with Cornish crème fraiche and Cornish honey. Cornish dairy products were also used as well as organic coffee supplied by a Cornish company, Cornish apple juice and even Cornish tea from the Tregothnan estate!
Each guest was provided with a copy of the menu to take away. This also listed the local producers featured, plus a selection of farm shops, veg box schemes and mail order companies selling Cornish food. Guests were also provided with more information about each of the producers.
A chef was hired for the event and assisted by Slow Food committee members and hired waiting staff.
