- World of Taste Dinner with Slow Food Cornwall - 03/06/06
Hold the date!
On Saturday 3rd June, Slow Food Cornwall brings a unique `World of
Taste' fundraising event to the Eden Project with special guests Murray
Lachlan Young www.murraylachlanyoung.com and TV presenter and
sustainable small holder, Dick Strawbridge.
This finale to
Eden's Food & Nutrition Week is an evening of taste
exploration which marks the British launch of Slow Food's international
projects to protect Britain’s agricultural biodiversity and food
culture: the Presidia, the Ark of Taste and world food conference, Terra
Madre. The dinners will raise funds to support the opening of a Slow
Food UK national office later this year, and its work in further
developing biodiversity projects in the UK.
- World of Taste Menu
Here in Cornwall we'll be kicking off with a Plymouth Gin sponsored
cocktail-and-canapes hour with entertainment from Murray Lachlan Young's
unique blend of dark satirical stand up verse and prose. The first
spoken word artist to be given a publishing deal by the mainstream music
industry, EMI released Young's `Vice and Verse' on CD to critical
acclaim.
For our World of Taste Dinner, St Austell Brewery awardwinning catering
development manager, Paul Drye, is working with Eden's team to create a
menu using some of Cornwall and the UK's most authentic foods. Our meal
will be accompanied by information about all the unique foods included
on the menu, from raw milk cheeses from some of the UK's smallest
producers to coffee from a Guatemalan co-operative, `HueHuetenango'.
Dinner is accompanied with red and white wines from Sicily's Settesoli,
Menfi and we'll even be tasting Three Counties Perry from the UK
www.slowfoodfoundation.com/eng/presidi/lista.lasso.
After dinner, Dick Strawbridge, presenter of BBC2's `It's Not Easy Being
Green' and now a sustainable
smallholder near St Austell www.itsnoteasybeinggreen.org will be waxing
lyrical about Slow Food and keeping us entertained with tales from his
latest project and TV series.
We'll be finishing off the evening with a raffle of very special foodie
prizes, including dinner for two at Roast in Borough Market
www.roast-restaurant.com which Visit Britain describes as one of the Top
10 Restaurants in London and revered critic Fay Maschler recommends as
one of the Hottest Meals of 2005.
Finally, we'll be sending everyone off home with a goodie bag of
authentic food and drink samples.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a strictly first come first
served basis. Tickets Non-members £40 / £35 members, available from
