Falmouth Oyster Festival
19th October 2006 – 10th Anniversary
The Falmouth Oyster Festival is now in its tenth year
and this year it is aimed to capture everyone’s imagination from the
oyster connoisseur to younger budding artists. This annual celebration
of the ultimate luxury food – the oyster – is upon us again and proves
to be more action packed than ever before!
For the first time in 2006 there will be an assortment of quizzes and
painting competitions for children and hot and cold foods will be
available throughout the event.
The National Maritime Museum has an array of special events and
children’s acitivities and there will be an opportunity to go on boat
trips on the St Mawes ferries to see the oyster dredging fleet at work.
The festival starts on Thursday 19th October and runs for 4 days. It
will be opened by celebrity chef, Gennaro Contaldo, assisted by trainee
chefs from Fifteen.
Throughout the festival there will be cookery demonstrations by local
chefs from The Royal Duchy, Bistro de la Mer, Hotel Tresanton, Penmere
Manor, St Micheal’s Hotel, The Cove and The Three Mackerel.
Live music will also feature throughout the festival with folk and
ballads from Pendans, Dalla and Mike Pritchard and Bob Love, jazz from
the Old Glory Jazz Band and Manouche, The Belfast Busker, shanty singing
with Falmouth Shout and also the famous Falmouth Marine Band will visit
too.
To celebrate the 10th Falmouth Oyster Festival, a classic Cornish
concert will be hosted in the festival marquee on Friday 20th October
2006, featuring St Kervene Band and the Treverva Male Voice Choir.
