- New Leader for Slow Food Cornwall
Katy Davidson, has been elected as the new leader of Slow Food Cornwall at the first
AGM for the convivium.
Katy who lives in Newquay and works at the Sands Resort Hotel in Porth has worked
in Media and Marketing since graduating from university. Using these skills within
her voluntary work with The Ecologist Magazine led her to discover the Slow Food
organisation and when she heard a convivium had started in Cornwall she was eager
to get involved.
Katy who joined Slow Food Cornwall as an active committee member last year was
voted into the position at the Camel Valley Vineyard in a meeting hosted by former
leader Bob Lindo.
'I am delighted to hand over the reins of Slow Food Cornwall to my erstwhile deputy
leader Katy Davidson. Membership has mushroomed to 75 in a very short period and
it's great to have a young enthusiastic and capable person like Katy to take on the
challenges of consolidation and further growth. She is backed by a great committee.
Annie and I look forward to attending many future events as ordinary members.'
This month sees her officially welcomed into the International Slow Food
organisation from headquarters in Italy. Katy says, ‘Along with the dedicated
committee members, I hope to continue the excellent work done in the previous year
which has seen Slow Food Cornwall grow to be the 6 th largest convivium in England
in a very short time.’
Fiona Richmond, the Slow Food UK representative in Italy said, ‘Our thanks to Bob
for doing such a brilliant job, and building the convivium to a membership of over 75.
A warm welcome to Katy... and good luck!’
The committee members have already been responsible for organising some excellent
events such as the Brunches at Port Eliot and Prideaux Place. Angie Dodd of
‘Seriously Good’ is currently spearheading the organisation of a fundraising dinner at
the Eden Project on June 3rd, which promises to be a great event.
Katy will be chairing her first meeting as leader this Saturday 6 th at 2.30pm at
Treworrian Farm, Ladock. Photographers are invited to attend at 2pm if pictures are
required. Please call Katy on 07813792968 to confirm.
